FORTUNATE ISLE

i had been keeping a close eye on the work of julian and gabor bata for a while, over time we became online friends. i had collaborated on some tiny little animations with julian and we knew we liked working together. i had seen little bits and pieces of this book they were working on.

julian had snuck me an early pdf of the book and i was so captured by it. gabor's unique imagery, julian's vivid characters and dialogue had built this exotic world that felt both distant and intimate, like a dream you couldn't quite recall really occurred or not. the book left me affected and right there i was ready to pitch an animated adaptation to the Bata's. naturally, the resources, talent and time were limited to the three of us so i did the next best thing- created this animated trailer to help promote their book on kickstarter.

im absolutely proud of the work done on this one, but i can hardly take any credit since the designs do the heavy-lifting. the kickstarter was successful and they ended up doing a limited printing of the book that looked great. i hope that they can do another printing with a distributor so that more people can read this story. the kickstarter is over, but you can still visit the page here to learn more about the project or get a pdf of the book from klubzin's store page and you can keep an eye on Julian's or Gabor's instagram pages.
